The countdown to A Court of Splintered Harmony is on, and Sarah J. Maas is celebrating ACOTAR Book 6 by sharing quotes in the lead-up to its release. The author is posting snippets from the sequel on Instagram (complete with audio), and the first promises a return to form for A Court of Thorns and Roses. That would be a first-person Feyre POV. Unfortunately, it sounds like someone she loves is in serious trouble, heightening the anxiety for the next leg of this story.
The second quote Maas shared on Instagram is just as nerve-wracking, but it places us back into Cassian and Nesta’s narrative. A Court of Silver Flames focused primarily on the couple, and they’re on good footing by the book’s ending. Maas’ latest quote sees Nesta walking away from him, which could spell trouble in paradise for one of ACOTAR‘s best couples:
“So Cassian let her go. Let her keep walking down the hall, and out the front door. Nesta didn’t look back at him. Not once.”
Of course, as Maas pointed out when addressing leaks, a single passage taken out of context isn’t all that revealing. This could mean Cassian and Nesta will fight, or even break up, at some point during A Court of Splintered Harmony. Drama like that keeps romantasy books going, and it wouldn’t necessarily mean they’re not endgame. It would just pose yet another challenge for them to overcome.
However, these lines may also be meant to misdirect readers. The passage from A Court of Splintered Harmony might have nothing to do with the pair as a couple. Nesta could be opting to do something heroic that puts her in danger, with Cassian objecting. The roles could be reversed, too, creating friction between them. Ultimately, readers need more details about the next ACOTAR book to know.
Fortunately, they don’t have much longer to wait until the novel is officially on shelves.
