2026 is set to be a big year for romantasy sequels, and not just because the new A Court of Thorns and Roses book is finally arriving (though that certainly helps matters). There are a number of highly anticipated follow-ups hitting shelves over the next nine months, and it’s safe to assume that some of them will break the internet with their debuts. After all, their predecessors did — and that only makes us more eager to see what’s coming next.
We’re still waiting on the next Fourth Wing book, but there are plenty of great romantasy stories to tide us over in the meantime. April brings us the follow-up to one of 2025’s biggest BookTok hits, and a bunch of other exciting sequels will follow…right up until the return of Feyre & co. in ACOTAR book 6.
Rites of the Starling by Devney Perry
Release Date: April 7, 2026

Shield of Sparrows took BookTok by storm in 2025, marking romance author Devney Perry’s first foray into romantasy. Given how well-loved the book was — and the fact that it ended on a cliffhanger — it’s no surprise that readers are eager to get their hands on the sequel. Fortunately, it’s almost here. Rites of the Starling will release on April 7, 2026, returning readers to Calandra. It promises to put more responsibility our heroine’s shoulders, pushing her to embrace “the monster within.” Consider us sold.
Fury Bound by Sable Sorensen
Release Date: May 5, 2026

Fury Bound is one of the lesser-known romantasy follow-ups hitting shelves this year, but anyone who regularly haunts romantasy spaces has likely heard of Dire Bound. Sable Sorensen’s indie-to-trad-published romantasy story has the human-creature bond that Fourth Wing fans love — just with wolves instead. And although its main character survives the deadly trials of book 1, Meryn’s journey isn’t over yet. With Dire Bound’s ending complicating the relationship between Meryn and Killian, things promise to get more intense in this follow-up. It’s a must-read Spring 2026 release.
Broken Dove by Dani Francis
Release Date: May 12, 2026

Silver Elite made waves online on 2025, and despite being marketed as a dystopian book, it leans more romantasy. Its sequel, Broken Drove, is slated for a May 12 release. And with Wren escaping the Command — and likely walking into more danger by officially joining the Uprising — Broken Dove is set to ramp up the stakes of this rebellion story. It’s bound to get people talking again, especially if it mirrors Silver Elite‘s highly-discussed debut.
The Ballad of Falling Dragons by Sarah A. Parker
Release Date: May 19, 2026

Another one of 2026’s most-anticipated romantasy sequels, The Ballad of Falling Dragons will continue the story that began back in 2024 with When the Moon Hatched. The revelations at the end of book 1 are sure to have major consequences as the Moonfall series continues. It sounds like Raeve and Kann will have some difficult decisions to make in this sequel, too, promising plenty of angst and adventure upon its May 19 release.
Adversary to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer
Release Date: August 4, 2026

Hannah Nicole Maehrer’s Assistant to the Villain series comes to a close later this year, with Adversary to the Villain finally revealing the truth of the prophecy teased in prior books — and deciding whether Evie and the Villain will end up together at long last. After three books of comical, romantic, and sometimes high-stakes adventures, we have to hope they get their happy ending. Fortunately, we’ll know for sure when the book hits shelves this August.
The Knave and the Moon by Rachel Gillig
Release Date: September 1, 2026

The Fall 2026 publishing season is stacked, and The Knave and the Moon is easily one of the biggest romantasy sequels arriving during that timeframe. After all, The Knight and the Moth is one of BookTok’s most viral 2025 hits. And although Sybil solves one problem during the book’s ending, she winds up bound to another. The Knave and the Moon will chronicle her efforts to save her kingdom from that threat, whatever happens. It will also see a “mysterious knave” arriving with a potential solution. And we’ll have see Rodrick Myndacious, Bartholomew, and Maude Bauer again — which only makes us more excited, Bartholomew!
A Court of Thorns and Roses Book 6
Release Date: October 27, 2026

If any romantasy sequel is destined to break the internet in 2026, it’s A Court of Thorns and Roses book 6. It’s been five years since Sarah J. Maas last swept readers away to Prythian. And it’s been two years since the author released a book at all, which means readers are eager to dive into whatever she puts out next. The fact that ACOTAR book 6 will be followed by two more releases — one of which comes out just two months later — means we’re in for a season of raving over romantasy. There’s no word on what ACOTAR book 6 will cover, but readers have guesses. The primary one is that it’ll be centered on Elain, though we’ll need more details to say so for sure.
Fae & Alchemy Book 3 by Callie Hart
Release Date: November 10, 2026

Quicksilver is another BookTok darling, and although Brimstone is divisive, Fae & Alchemy book 3 will still be a huge release. It will certainly dominate the Winter 2026 season with its November arrival. And considering where Brimstone leaves Saeris and Kingfisher, this third installment is bound to be a wild ride. Not much is known about it, from the title to the cover, but fans have their eyes peeled for any news. Hopefully, we’ll get some updates soon.
