Rebecca Yarros’ Next Book Just Took a Huge Step Forward

Fourth Wing author Rebecca Yarros has been hard at work on a new romance novel, and her next book just took a big step forward. Yarros has been vocal about penning contemporary romances between her fantasy books, and that trend has continued on the heels of Onyx Storm‘s January 2025 release. Although most are eager to get their hands on the next Fourth Wing sequel, they’ll get another new novel first — and it’s officially been submitted.

On her Instagram Stories, Yarros posted a picture of her lounging with her cat, writing, “Contemporary is turned in. Perfect view for a day off!”

It sounds like a well-earned break after Yarros has spent months working on this story. As of this writing, we don’t know much about it. Perhaps with the initial drafting stage done, we’ll get more details, though there’s likely a longer editorial process that still needs to take place before a release date surfaces.

Rebecca Yarros’ Update Is Great News for Fourth Wing Fans

Yarros’ latest update is obviously great news for contemporary romance fans, as it means we’re a bit closer to getting our hands on her next book. And if it’s anything like The Last Letter and Variation, this one’s likely to get us back in our feels.

In a more indirect way, this update is also good news for those awaiting The Empyrean book 4. After all, the sooner that Yarros is finished with her current project, the sooner she’ll be able to dive back into her romantasy story (following another deserved break, hopefully!).

The author recently posted an Instagram photo of her Empyrean stack with a note that it felt “like a great day to start a stack of index cards,” so the planning process may already be underway. And once her contemporary story is out in the world, well have something to tide us over during the wait (as though we aren’t already filling the time with theories about Xaden’s new brother and Violet’s wedding ring).
